Dustin Strand continued his hot streak on Friday night, winning his sixth NLRA feature, and his sixth feature at River Cities on Friday night. Strand survived a pileup in turn three, and contact with a lapped car to capture the win, leaving him one win shy of John Seitz' series record seven wins set in 2004. Strand, who took the lead from Joey Pederson on lap seven, went on to lead the remainder of the race. Strand was followed to the line by Donny Schatz, who again went on to won the Sprint Car portion of the event, Pederson, Bill Mooney, and teammate Zach Naastad, who rounded out the top five. Strand again closed his disadvantage to point leader Brad Seng in the series standings, as the pair will be separated by just 16 markers when the series reconvenes next Saturday night at the Viking Speedway in Alexandria, MN.

The NLRA is set to head north to make it's lone appearance in Canada for the 2016 season on Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, before heading back south on Friday to once again share the spotlight with the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks.
On Thursday night, August the 25th, the NLRA makes its' 26th appearance at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, Manitoba, for the third annual Can-Am Late Model Challenge.
This Saturday night, August the 20th, the NLRA will head west for the 19th time in series history to the Devils Lake Speedway near Crary, ND. For the third time this season, the NLRA will share the stage with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association.
The upper-midwest's two premier racing series co-headlined events at the Red River Valley Speedway on July 17, and the Greenbush Race Park on July 30. This will be the first time in the 16 year history of the Devils Lake Speedway, which started out as the SAAGA International Speedway in 2000, that Late Models and Sprint Cars have raced on the same night at the track.
On Saturday night, July the 30th, the NLRA will take the track for the second and final time in 2016, and 24th time overall, at the Greenbush Race Park in Greenbush, MN. The series is also scheduled to make their second of now three away-from-River Cities appearances with the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association.
Cole Schill, driver of the No. 44 Mid Ag Dispatch MasterSbilt, lead all 25 laps en route to winning his first NLRA series feature on June 18th. Cole became the third Schill to win in Greenbush, as his father Howie won two races in a row in Greenbush in 2007 and again in 2008. Cole's uncle Troy won the series second appearance in Greenbush in July of 1999. Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium, became the second driver this season to win two NLRA features in six days, winning Saturday night at the Devils Lake Speedway near Crary, ND. Strand's first win in the six day time period came at the Red River Valley Speedway on July 17th. Strand matched Cole Schill's mark, as Schill won on June 18th in Greenbush and June 24th in West Fargo. Strand's win is also his seventh career NLRA series triumph, tying him two-time series champion Troy Schill, and 2006 series co-champion Troy Olson for ninth on the series all time wins list.
On Sunday night, July the 17th, the NLRA will co-headline closing night festivities at the Red River Valley Fair with the NOSA Sprint Cars. This event marks just the fourth time the areas two premier racing series have shared an event at a speedway other than the River Cities Speedway, and first since June 10th, 2007.
Jeremy Keller and Jason Linnell were winners in 2007 at the Nodak Speedway in Minot, ND. The Norman County Raceway in Ada, MN hosted the other two in 1998 and 2001. This is also scheduled to be the ninth appearance by the NLRA on the Red River Valley Fairgrounds, seventh on the current three-eights mile configuration, and second since the track reopened this past May after sitting dormant since the conclusion of the 2012 racing season.
Corcoran Wins At River Cities
Tom Corcoran, driver of the No. T1 D&B Motors Rocket, picked up a popular victory at the River Cities Speedway last Friday night, his first at the track since June 4, 2010. The 61-year-old veteran of 47 racing seasons, started on the pole, and lead all twenty laps, while doing a text book job in lapped traffic, which was key to his victory. Joey Pederson, driver of the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors MB Custom finished second, Dustin Strand was third in the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium.
After running the seasons first seven races in a span of 14 days, the NLRA schedule is on a bit of a hiatus, but that doesn't mean its' series regulars have taken any time off.
Last Thursday night at the Red River Co-Op Speedway in Winnipeg, Dustin Strand, driver of the No. 71 Q&Z Plumbing & Heating Millenium, won the feature in his first appearance at the speedway in 2016. Current speedway point leader Mike Balcaen, driver of the No. 10 Enns Brothers Black Diamond, finished second to Strand, while Shane Edginton, driver of the No. 4 Performance Auto Victory finished fourth, and sits four points back of Balcaen for the point lead.
The NLRA series continued its' four race stretch with a return to the Red River Valley Speedway, where Cole Schill, Driver of the No. 44 Mid Ag Dispatch MasterSbilt, picked up a popular home victory, his second in less than a week. The stretch wrapped up at River Cities on Saturday night, where Don Shaw won his first late model feature at he speedway since 1999.
Schill and Allen Kent, in his K&K Racing No. 33, lead the field to the green, with Schill leading into one. The pair was followed by Shane Edginton, Matt Aukland and Mike Balcaen. Schill lead lap one by a nose, as he and Kent were even, one again, into turn one, as Aukland peeked inside of Edginton in turn two. Cole Schill picked up his second win in six nights at the NLRA return to the Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, ND on Friday night. Schill, just like last Saturday night at the Greenbush Race Park, lead flag-to-flag, for his second career series triumph. Fifteenth starting Brad Seng, and twelfth starting Don Shaw finished second and third respectively, while Shane Edginton, and Jamestown winner Zach Naastad rounded out the top five. Seng will remain the point leader by twenty markers over Edginton heading into the final night of the four night stretch on Saturday at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND. Remember that Saturday's event at River Cities includes a meet-and-greet in front of the grandstands starting at 4:30 pm, with admission set at five dollars thanks to Buffalo Wild Wings.
